Scripture: Matthew 2:1-2
In the time of King Herod, after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea, wise men from the East came to Jerusalem, asking, “Where is the child who has been born king of the Jews? For we observed his star at its rising, and have come to pay him homage.”
Thought for the Day: We are in the midst of the 12 Days of Christmas. I know that most of you stopped singing about the “five golden rings” more than a week ago, but as I try to remind people again and again, the 12 days of Christmas are the 12 days between Christmas and Epiphany…Epiphany being the day when we remember the arrival of the wise men. We will celebrate Epiphany this coming Sunday with our Camel Walk and special children’s event (CLICK HERE to get kids registered), but let us be mindful of how important it is to separate out Christmas from Epiphany. They are different stories with very unique and important messages. To cram the wise men into the nativity scene and to box them up on December 26th is to miss so much of who they are and why Matthew wanted to include their story in his Gospel.
Prayer: Let me walk with the wise men in their search for the young child. Bring me along, O Lord, as I seek to honor him with the gifts I bring. Amen.
