Ecclesiological Etchings

Scripture: Malachi 3:6
I am the LORD, and I do not change; and you, children of Jacob, have not perished.

Thought for the Day: The prophet, speaking on behalf of God, declares God’s unchanging nature. This comes amidst some harsh critique and calling out the specific sins of the nation. It is down right personal and uncomfortable, but the language of “I do not change” should ring strongly. As I read the whole chapter, my mind goes to some opening words that speak of the Lord sending a messenger to prepare the way. The presence of the Lord is going to bring about change, even painful change. Yet in the end, the “offerings of Judah and Jerusalem will be pleasing to the Lord” once again. God remains the same throughout all of time, for God continues to make a way into our lives for the sake of transformation. God’s redeeming and transformative nature does not come and go like the wind. God is consistent when it comes to this work.

Prayer: No matter the circumstance – no matter the difficulty, I trust in you, O Everlasting and Unchanging God. You have not forgotten creation, and your promise to us remains consistent with who you have been. With gratitude, I offer you my words of praise and thanksgiving. Amen.
