Scripture: Jeremiah 22:13
Woe to him who builds his house by unrighteousness, and his upper rooms by injustice; who makes his neighbors work for nothing, and does not give them their wages…
Thought for the Day: Desmond Tutu said, “If you have chosen to remain neutral in a situation of injustice, you are really not neutral.” Quiet neutrality is what those who are committing injustice desire from the masses. The greatest enemy of injustice is the collective voice of those who have chosen to seek justice even when it is risky. Throughout history, including American history, there have been moments when the masses cautiously remained quiet while injustice was committed. Elie Wiesel – Holocaust survivor and author – reminds us that “we must take sides. Neutrality helps the oppressor, never the victim. Silence encourages the tormentor, never the tormented.” In our Dare to Dream, there are some who are feeling as if God is calling them to give voice to the voiceless. You are in good company as Moses, Jeremiah and Isaiah provided such a voice.
Prayer: O Lord who cares for the weak and forgotten, guide me to where I can speak and act for all those who you love. Amen.
