Ecclesiological Etchings

Scripture: Galatians 1:3-4Galatians-Image
Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ, who gave himself for our sins to set us free from the present evil age, according to the will of our God and Father…

Thought for the Day: Though Paul rejects some of his Jewish heritage, he holds to other parts of it.  In this case, he teaches the Jewish idea of history being divided into two parts: Present evil age and the coming new age.  According to Paul’s thinking, it is the life and death of Jesus that becomes the entry point through which a person can travel into this new realm.  Though the present evil age will attempt to maintain its influence, Paul sees its power as having no ultimate authority.  In a time when many Christians are looking to the heavens for the end of the world, we need to remind them of how the old has already passed away through the loving acts of Christ.

Prayer: Help me to embrace your new world, O God, where love and forgiveness reign.  Amen.
