Scripture: Proverbs 14:30
A tranquil mind gives life to the flesh, but passion makes the bones rot.
Thought for the Day: On this day in 1572, nineteen Catholic priests and other religious leaders were executed by Dutch Calvinists. It was a theological argument, and though people might disagree passionately with one another, was the hanging of these men really the vision Jesus had for the world? I know it was a different time, and most every religious battle had political ramifications. Yet the church brought forth by the resurrected Christ was to continue to rise above the self-centered bickering that only gives license to the powers and principalities seeking to undermine God’s hope for humanity. We may not be seeking to hang those with whom we disagree, but the rhetoric is so vicious and hate-charged that good Christian people are leaving behind their most treasured values. What are we to do?
Prayer: Center me, O Lord, on your words of love and mercy. Bring me to that quiet place where I can meet you anew and your vision is once again put before me. Amen.
