Scripture: Galatians 2:4-5
But because of false believers secretly brought in, who slipped in to spy on the freedom we have in Christ Jesus, so that they might enslave us—we did not submit to them even for a moment, so that the truth of the gospel might always remain with you.
Thought for the Day: Some unnamed folks who believed all must be circumcised before becoming Christian had been watching Paul and his teachings very closely. They had brought their objections to the church in Jerusalem with the intention of repudiating the idea of open membership – an idea that was occurring in the churches in which Paul had been preaching, including Galatia. General openness, whether it be open membership or open communion, has always been met with a strong if not violent reaction. People are always wanting to tightly restrict membership within the church. This seems a bit odd to me as we are gathering in the name of the One who broke bread with sinners, outcasts, doubters and prostitutes.
Prayer: Let me trust you and your spirit, O God, with the gracious acceptance displayed in Jesus. Amen.
