Ecclesiological Etchings

Scripture: Galatians 2:11-13Galatians-Image
But when Cephas came to Antioch, I opposed him to his face, because he stood self-condemned; for until certain people came from James, he used to eat with the Gentiles. But after they came, he drew back and kept himself separate for fear of the circumcision faction.  And the other Jews joined him in this hypocrisy, so that even Barnabas was led astray by their hypocrisy.

Thought for the Day: The word hypocrisy in the original language of the New Testament (ancient Greek) literally meant: An actor who plays a scripted role.  How are your acting skills?  Are you following a script that has nothing to do with where your heart wishes to be?  I think one of the most difficult roles to play is simply being yourself.  Instead of accepting who we are, we spend all the time trying to hide our true selves.  In doing so, we are denying God’s grace which has the capacity of accepting and using our flawed personalities that we don’t want anyone to see.

Prayer: I wish to take on my greatest role, O God, the real person you called me to be.  Amen.
