Scripture: Galatians 3:27-29
As many of you as were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. There is no longer Jew or Greek, there is no longer slave or free, there is no longer male and female; for all of you are one in Christ Jesus. And if you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham’s offspring, heirs according to the promise.
Thought for the Day: These words are not original to Paul. They were probably part of the church’s early baptismal liturgy, and they expressed what God does in the waters of baptism. Our English translation loses the passive nature of the act from the perspective of the one being baptized. God is acting in the waters, and the end result is something culture, the workplace and government are incapable of doing. People of greatly diverse backgrounds are brought together through a common faith in the ways of Jesus.
Prayer: Though we are created differently, O God, you draw us together with a common purpose of gracious and just living. Assist us as we continue to live out the work of the baptismal waters. Amen.
