Scripture: Matthew 19:13-15
Then little children were being brought to him in order that he might lay his hands on them and pray. The disciples spoke sternly to those who brought them; but Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not stop them; for it is to such as these that the kingdom of heaven belongs.” And he laid his hands on them and went on his way.
Thought for the Day: What have you done for the children? What have we (the church) done for children? I truly believe God is gracious, but part of our salvation is tied to the question of what have we done for the health and wellbeing of children? Jesus lived in a time when children were not to be seen or heard, and in fact, they were considered to be something closer to an indentured servant who would become the parents’ retirement plan. Jesus challenged what much of his culture believed in regard to the value and purpose of children – asking how does a community honor and encourage children in their pursuit of their life-purpose. What are we doing? And not simply for the children who live with us or around us, but children everywhere?
Prayer: May the grace you have given in all times and all places, O Lord, give me the ability to see your priorities and to live my life with those priorities. Amen.
