Ecclesiological Etchings

Scripture: 2nd Corinthians 3:18
All of us are looking with unveiled faces at the glory of the Lord as if we were looking in a mirror. We are being transformed into that same image from one degree of glory to the next degree of glory. This comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.

Thought for the Day: This is the passage I used for Jerry Schoonover’s Memorial Service, but as I have been reading it and rereading it, I have been struck by the idea of looking with unveiled faces. Paul is referring to a veil that was worn by Moses because he was glowing with the glory he had seen, but this veil is no longer needed as the fullness of God found in Jesus Christ is glory we want all to see. As we stare upon the life of Jesus, the glory we see (glory being the glow of grace) becomes a glory that begins to transform the one who sees. Let us spend time staring at the life of Jesus found in scripture. In doing so, God’s glory is revealed with such power that it will be implanted on anyone who sees it for what it is.

Prayer: We open ourselves to your revelation of grace, O Lord, and we pray that what we see and learn in Jesus will become what is seen in us. Amen.
