Scripture: Psalm 37:5
Commit your way to the LORD! Trust him! The LORD will act.
Thought for the Day: In yesterday’s devotional, I raved about Saturday night’s Renewal Service, and though I already had today’s devotional written, I’m pushing it back to Tuesday. I’m doing it to gush on Sunday’s service. Actually, the whole day was fantastic. The service was so much fun (and it wasn’t because someone else was preaching – though that was nice), the lunch made for great fellowship, the preparation for the new flooring got done quickly, our new JYF (3rd – 5th graders) had a fabulous first gathering, and then the youth group had a blast bowling last night. There was energy and laughter, thoughtfulness and challenge, good work and encouraging words, food and silliness. God was a part of every moment, and it all started with the above words at the beginning of our morning worship. The Psalm speaks of committing, trusting and the Lord acting. In the Hebrew, the word we translate as act is `asah. It means to use, utilize or produce. When we commit to the ways of God, trusting in God’s ability to do great things, God is able to utilize us and bring forth God’s hopes and dreams for our world. And as Rev. Gary Groves reminded us in yesterday morning’s sermon, we can best do that TOGETHER. God’s best work seems to be done when people are in community, for not one of us has all the needed tools, skills or gifts. Yet when a group of people come TOGETHER – committing and trusting – God utilizes the wonderful range of giftedness to produce something amazing. Looking around…it is happening at Cypress Creek Christian Church.
Prayer: By your grace, O Lord, may our church come together with a growing commitment and trust in you. Bind us together; bind us to you; make us useful in the good work of loving the world on your behalf. Amen.
