Scripture: 1st Thessalonians 5:17-19
Pray continually. Give thanks in every situation because this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. Don’t suppress the Spirit.
Thought for the Day: The following is from Gary Grove’s Saturday sermon during our Renewal Weekend. I thought it was perfect on this Thanksgiving Sunday…
OK, I’m going to get into the weeds here for a minute, but please stick with me. You see, it’s our gratitude to God that inspires and moves us to action. When we reach that place of true and complete gratitude, we find that we can’t help but respond in service to God. The reality is that, anybody can feel legitimately grateful, but gratitude not followed up by an act of love, is frankly empty. It’s about responsive gratitude. That means we can’t be fully grateful to God unless we offer back a tangible response of action that honors God and serves others. OK, yes, let’s come together and offer praise and worship to our Lord as often as we can, but that must be accompanied by service to others—service to those who are in need of experiencing the hands and feet of Christ through each of us. Both acts make up equal parts of responsive gratitude. It is this action and response that creates, and grows our passion for Jesus. In other words, for our passion to grow, we have to be grateful to the point of acting and responding in ways that bring glory to God.
Prayer: Make my gratitude more than a fleeting word or two. O Lord, make my spirit a vessel of thankfulness that spills forth in a tangible response of grace. Amen.
