Ecclesiological Etchings

Scripture: Luke 1:41
When Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the child leaped in her womb, and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit.

Thought for the Day: I hope this doesn’t sound too weird, but I believe babies, animals and even the child in a womb is more aware of his/her setting than we realize. Time and maturity squeeze the spiritual sensitivity out of us. God showed up in the home of Elizabeth in a way that was beyond unexpected. Mary’s vision had told her that she carried the very presence of God within her, yet such a message would have left most of us a bit skeptical. The moment the child within Elizabeth leapt, Mary had another confirmation of what she wanted to believe. Too often we look to the wrong people and voices for confirmation of God’s loving presence in our lives. Something as simple as the burpy smile of an infant might just tell us exactly what we need to know.

Prayer: Provide me good spiritual senses, O Loving God, so I can see even what is not visible to my eyes. Amen.
