Scripture: Luke 1:78-79
Because of our God’s deep compassion, the dawn from heaven will break upon us, to give light to those who are sitting in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide us on the path of peace.
Thought for the Day: Yesterday, I spoke about John the Baptist’s mission as revealed in his father’s (Zechariah’s) prophecy. In this prophetic song, Zechariah goes on to speak of why God is acting, what God is doing, and to offer a picture of the completed task. God has a deep concern and compassion for humanity. This feeling within God requires action and so God shall bring light to those who know only darkness. Yet even the light is not the final destination – it liberates one from the darkness and then allow the person to see and be guided along the path of peace. God’s work is to get us on the path of peace, into a way of life that is contrary to the world’s violence and destruction. In this season, don’t settle with the beauty of light. Allow yourselves to see what it reveals and where it is leading.
Prayer: Guide me, O Emmanuel, along the path and to the peace which surpasses all understanding. Amen.
