Scripture: 1st Corinthians 14:26
What is the outcome of this, brothers and sisters? When you meet together, each one has a psalm, a teaching, a revelation, a tongue, or an interpretation. All these things must be done to build up the church.
Thought for the Day: If you haven’t guessed, my devotionals have been focused on a few things for which I am thankful. It is definitely NOT an exhaustive list, but a few highlights. Today, I am thankful for my church. I use the word “my” not because it belongs to me, but because I belong to it – to them – to you. I have known the church (in the larger sense) since the day of my birth, and though my love affair with the church has had a few rocky moments, I remain faithful to it (them – you) because I believe in it. Today, I am thankful for my church, the specific expression called Cypress Creek Christian Church, because I find it to be this amazing mix of people and personalities, gifts and graces, silliness and seriousness. And to be honest, I am thankful that my church allows me to do what I do. Though ministry can have its difficult moments (as every profession does), it is humbling that a group of people trust me to bring the word of Christ’s love to them on a regular basis. Today, I am thankful for my church.
Prayer: Let my work and the work of my sisters and brothers in Christ continue to build up your church, O Lord whose Spirit gave birth to this community. Amen.
