Ecclesiological Etchings

Prayer for the Week: As we return to some semblance of normalcy in these post-Christmas days, we pray for you to be a part of what we are doing. O Lord of Mercy, you desire to be more than a side show in our daily routines; you aspire to be woven into the fabric of our daily existence; you long for us to know you in such a way that our lives resemble the ways of Jesus. We might be hoping that life returns to some semblance of normalcy, but you have never sought the normal or the routine. Your love and your life born into this world break open what the world wants as normal. You, the God who took on flesh and lived among us, have never wanted a routine that dulls our senses and deadens our passion. If life was too routine to make room for your living presence, then upend our routine as we enter this new year. Create for us both time and space where we simply could not imagine making room for anything else. Lord God, you are the One who chose to love us first. You reached out to the world with love enfleshed to awaken us to a life lived through love – a love for you, self and neighbor. This kind of love has never been a part of the world’s normal. In fact, the world’s normal has too often opposed the unconditional love shown to us in Jesus. May he be both our mentor and our model as we strive to live what the world might describe as abnormal lives. We make these prayerful requests in the name of Jesus. Amen.
