Ecclesiological Etchings

Prayer for the Day: May both the Living Word and Living Water be for me my hope, my healing and my dream of the possible. O God of yesterday, today and all the tomorrows, I give you thanks for the Living Word that springs forth from scripture, from the community of faith and from the companionship of your Spirit. Too often I have fought change; pushed back any challenge; ignored the needed reshaping of my own life. With some concern, and even some trepidation, I give you permission to confront me where I need to be confronted. Allow for the grace of Jesus to calm my fears and make space for the work that is needed. I also give thanks for the Living Water my life encountered in baptism. Whether I knew it in the moment or not, I trust that you were at work in those waters. You not only claimed me, but you put me on a path by which I was to grow in my understand of the far-reaching implications that this claim has. Some might view the act of baptism as an old and irrelevant ritual, but I pray that your Living Water continue to claim me for the work of your Loving Reign here on earth. These words I offer in the name of Jesus who was and is the Living Word and Living Water. Amen.
