Prayer for the Week: When there is nothing but joy, it is easy for my heart to break open with a prayerful song of gratitude. When there is a single person who is suffering, it is easy for me to bring that name to your ears with a prayer of intercession. When I am the one who is scared, it is easy for me to call upon your name like that of a supportive friend. Oh how easy it is to pray when the subject of my prayer is clear and what I am seeking in you is unambiguous. Such a prayer is what I long to express, but this is one of those moments when the sheer immensity of our plight and the perplexity of the emotional upheaval leaves all creation numb and weak. O Holy One of Creation, humanity itself is nervous and the very substance of the earth seems shaken. Whole segments of our population find themselves threatened – physically, emotionally or spiritually. It is hard to pray when the unknowns are many and complications are vast. It is hard to pray when everything and everyone should be the object of my prayers. Where do I begin? Maybe I already have. Thank you for listening. Amen.
