ECCLESIOLOGICAL ETCHINGS

Scripture: Hebrews 13:15-16
So let’s continually offer up a sacrifice of praise through him, which is the fruit from our lips that confess his name. Don’t forget to do good and to share what you have because God is pleased with these kinds of sacrifices.
Thought for the Day: There have been those who suggested over the years that our only task is to praise God in a spirit of worship and gratitude. There have been others who have suggested that our only task is to do good things and share what we have with others. I have even seen these very verses of scriptures referenced individually to argue one point or the other. Just a crazy idea – could it be both? Maybe we need a balance of gratitude and service, relationship building with God and sacrificially living that represents our relationship with a God whose love is sacrificial. As you have heard me say often, we pretend to live in an either/or world, but in reality, it is more often a both/and.
Prayer: I offer a word of praise to you, O Source of Love, while also seeking to live a life that resembles you, the One who I praise. Continue to help me to live a life that is balanced, where every expression of my faith draws strength and understanding from every other expression. Amen.
