Scripture: Exodus 39:24-26
On the robe’s lower hem, they added pomegranates made of blue, purple, and deep red yarns and of fine twisted linen. They also made pure gold bells and sewed the bells between the pomegranates, all around the robe’s lower hem, with a bell and a pomegranate alternating all around the lower hem of the robe that is used for ministering as a priest, just as the LORD had commanded Moses.
Thought for the Day: You sure couldn’t sneak around wearing that robe. Chapter 39 describes some of the vestments worn by the priests who ministered in the sanctuary. Bells have often been associated with holiness and joy, two experiences that should be associated with the sanctuary of the Lord. I thought of this passage because our bell choir is performing today between the services. The offerings in their performance will be those offered at the Regional Handbell Choir Convention the following week. Our choir was invited to share their music at the closing worship service – a real honor. Our choir will be ringing the bells, not wearing them, but I imagine that you will find their gifts to be both holy and joyful. Don’t miss it!
Prayer: May the bells we hear draw our thoughts and hearts to you, O Lord God. Provide us music that touches both our ears and our souls. This we pray in your most holy name. Amen.
