Prayer for the Week: If we were to look at the sky today, with patches of blue made even more brilliant by magnificently shaped clouds enticing our imagination, we might deceive our minds into believing that nothing has changed in recent months. Yet when our eyes take a break from the upward focus, it does not take long for us to be jolted by the myriad of palpable problems and fears gripping humanity. This is where we are, Lord, and escape into the beauty of the sky appears tempting, but only for those of us who have the option of actually escaping for a little while. Call us to speak words of love that never seek to devalue another human being, even those with whom we disagree. Allow for this message to point to what is possible, without ever utilizing the tactics that only embolden what our faith derides. Cast a vision before us, Merciful God, of a day when the way we live together resembles the vision Jesus gave us. Cast this vision and then invite us to live into it. Amen.
