Prayer for the Week: Creator of All, we are overwhelmed by the beauty of new and unexpected voices who announce your Good News. So often it is a change, a surprise that allows for your Spirit to reveal something we have never imagined before. Faith is about stability and certainty, while at the same time, it is about being challenged and confronted in our contentment. Allow for grace to be the vehicle that helps us hear and receive something new, for we know that it is not our correct beliefs that bring us the joy of salvation. It is your love that does not condemn us but wants us to live in the fullness of life. Even when we disagree, keep us from becoming disagreeable and cantankerous. Provide us space where someone else’s story can be shared and respected, even when our story and experiences are so very different. If you would have wanted consistency and uniformity, you would have never created the rich and splendid diversity that is humanity. Maybe the gift you need us to give the world right now is not some inflexible or dogmatic statement of faith, but a model of people living together with love – doing so, not in spite of our differences, but strangely because of our differences. We’ll need a lot of help and grace along the way, but we believe you have more than enough. In the name of the Living Christ we pray. Amen.
