Prayer for the Week:
Where are we?
Here and nowhere!
How far have we come?
This far and not far enough!
Who are we?
Beloved and broken!
Grandiose rhetoric
otherworldly illusions
are the technicolor facade
of religion
Innovative scapegoating
shrewd tinkering with anxieties
are the well played tools
of politicians
So many expressions of hope,
so many teachers of peace,
so many prophets of justice
Yet Powers and Principalities
Unholy forces of greed and egoism
General apathy and indifference
leave us arguing
over the inconsequential
fighting over
crumbs that fall to the floor
believing in
the myth of scarcity
Are you disappointed, God?
You must be!
Do you grief our failures, God?
How could you not?
Do you have hope in us, God?
If not, we understand.
The world needs you
like it always has
like it always will
Shall all the hate and pessimism
consume us
immobilize us?
Or will we
trust in love
practice kindness
strive for justice
doing so with reckless abandon
that just might end with a cross?
Today is a new day to walk with Jesus.
How far will we go?
How much will we risk?
May the answers be pleasing to you.
