Prayer for the Week: Where there appears to be so little, O God whose love overflows, teach us to see with the eyes of faith. We make this request as the voices of hope, abundance and joy are lost in a cacophony of fear that portrays this world as a place of insufficiency and inadequacy. Making sure everyone has a place at the table of plenty is demonized, suggesting it is an Us against Them world. We horde and hide as we play into the fallacy of too little. We help create an ethos of apprehension that dismisses the most vulnerable. Forgive us, O Gracious God, for in Jesus you showed the abundance made real in a spirit of generosity. Every human being has eternal value, for you have broadcast this truth with an incarnational proclamation. You did more than speak it from a mountain. You brought it to life at a time when too many of your beloved were devalued and dismissed. You brought it to life as Jesus transformed the fear fueled attitude of scarcity. Hesitation faded in the face of love; reluctance gave way to sharing; insufficiency was no longer able to maintain its supremacy. Today, I ask for help as I attempt to take on the attitude of Christ Jesus who showed the world how to live as one. I ask for this help as fear remains prevalent and powerful. Thank you for your help, Lord God. Amen.
