Ecclesiological Etchings

Scripture: 2 Corinthians 8:4
They urgently begged us for the privilege of sharing in this service for the saints.

Thought for the Day: As Paul writes to the church at Corinth, he celebrates the generosity of their spirits. Paul uses the extraordinary language of begging for the privilege of sharing. When was the last time you begged to give of yourself or your resources? When was the last time you remember pleading for the chance to sacrifice? If I were to guess, most of us might find it difficult to name an example. Now Paul’s language might be hyperbole, but even so, there is definitely a desire to communicate the church in Corinth’s over the top commitment to sacrificial living. Such actions might be hard for some to comprehend, but within the Christian witness, it is the natural response of someone who sees and truly appreciates the generosity of God revealed in Jesus.

Prayer: My faith is more than believing what Jesus did. My faith, inspired by your gracious Spirit, O God, is believed when my actions begin to resemble those of Jesus. Amen.
