Scripture: Psalm 34:18
The LORD is close to the brokenhearted; he saves those whose spirits are crushed.
Thought for the Day: A good friend, Rev. Michael Junkroski, posted a prayer online with the following as the opening line:
God whose love invades both our joy and suffering…
I love those words from Michael, especially the word invades. The Hebrew word we translate as close in the scripture is used other places in the Old Testament to describe an army approaching a city with the intent for battle. I don’t know if ‘close’ is really a good translation as it seems to suggest an objective of crossing a line. The Lord doesn’t simply come close to the brokenhearted, but approaches with the intend of crossing over and invading. And since the Lord is love, then the invasion into the brokenness is an invasion of love.
Prayer: Wherever I am and whatever I am facing, I claim your presence, O Lord. I claim your presence that doesn’t just show up and observe, but crosses into my life. Amen.

Thank you for this timely message. As I was reviewing, I received a call from a dear friend who was
just laid off effective immediately. I was able to share the message with her with the wonderful
reminder that we are to rely on our heavenly Father in both good and bad times.
Amen, and Amen! Thanks for being that voice and instrument of God.
