Ecclesiological Etchings

Scripture: Philippians 1:3-5
I thank my God every time I mention you in my prayers. I’m thankful for all of you every time I pray, and it’s always a prayer full of joy. I’m glad because of the way you have been my partners in the ministry of the gospel from the time you first believed it until now.

Thought for the Day: Since last Friday, I have been following the suggestion of Paul. My morning prayers have been mentioning different people by name, not in some sort of intercessory prayer (praying for illness, problems, etc.), but simply lifting up names in a spirit of gratitude. In the last five days or so, I have named in prayer more than 100 church people…many of you who might be reading this. Between now and Thanksgiving, I hope to have prayed my way through the entire congregation once, and hopefully be well on my way to a second time. Praying with an attitude of gratitude changes something within me. And it is not praying for specific gifts or talents of people, but saying a big thank you for the amazing and beautiful gift each person is. Our value is not found in what we do or how we do it. It is found in our God who has declared it to be so. Know that you have been or soon will be lifted in prayer for no other reason than you are an amazing gift.

Prayer: I say thank you, O Lord of All Creation. I am surrounded by a multitude of gifts, the very people I encounter each day. Provide me the ability to see the value each of them has, not in what they are doing or achieving, but for the reason that you have shown me in Jesus Christ – a love that has already given all humanity value. Amen.

SEE YOU TONIGHT
