Prayer for the Week:
Confusion and Wonderment;
Hesitation and Awe;
Angst and Agreement –
The emotions of the one you called,
O Lord whose message
was made visible
in the appearance of an angel.
The church has witnessed a shift
in the mood
and the appearance
and the spiritual climate of worship
as we enter this wonderful
– no, more like revolutionary –
time of the year.
What we claim and sing
rolls from our lips
as if we are speaking
of routine happenings,
and not the shocking appearance
of your fullness
in the womb of a young girl.
Make us more aware
of the magnitude and enormity
of what our faith claims about you,
O Magnificent God,
and about your servant, Mary –
the one who gave her Yes
to your invitation.
We make these requests
in the name of the gift
that Mary carried within her, Jesus.
Amen.
