Ecclesiological Etchings

Scripture: 1 John 2:5-6
Now, dear friends, I am requesting that we love each other. It’s not as though I’m writing a new command to you, but it’s one we have had from the beginning. This is love: that we live according to his commands. This is the command that you heard from the beginning: live in love.

Thought for the Day: In his life and ministry, Jesus both invited and commanded his followers to love one another as he loved them. Along with his spoken word, so much of his life was an embodiment of this idea. Even his birth demonstrated for us a God who is love, and created us to live in that love. The actor and comedian, Bob Hope, said:

My idea of Christmas,
wether old-fashioned or modern,
is very simple: Loving others
.

From birth to life to death to resurrection was all about love. Too often we attempt to complicate it a bit, but I think God continues to whisper through the Spirit, “Don’t over think it. Just love as I loved you.”

Prayer: In a world that likes to create complications as excuses, I seek your assistance, O God of Mercy and Kindness, for I wish to love as you have loved me. It is powerful and beautiful. It has changed my life, and I know you are hoping I will share it with others for the purpose of transformation. Amen.
