Ecclesiological Etchings

Scripture: Isaiah 40:3-5
A voice is crying out: “Clear the LORD’s way in the desert! Make a level highway in the wilderness for our God! Every valley will be raised up, and every mountain and hill will be flattened. Uneven ground will become level, and rough terrain a valley plain. The LORD’s glory will appear, and all humanity will see it together; the LORD’s mouth has commanded it.”

Thought for the Day: Today is Christmas Eve Eve. It doesn’t get as much attention, except among those who are beginning to panic because they’ve not done any shopping. I hope that’s not you, and even if it is, allow yourself to breathe. If it doesn’t get done, Christmas can continue to be celebrated long after December 25. In fact, the 12 Days of Christmas are the 12 days after Christmas. Christmas Sunday isn’t until the Sunday after Christmas, and we are to be singing Christmas Carols, not before Christmas, but between Christmas Day and Epiphany. In the life of the church, that is how we define Christmas. I’m certain some of you are already dreading the thought of packing up all the decorations. Relax, you still have two weeks until Epiphany. More importantly, God wants you to let go of the stressful stuff and begin celebrating. It is Christmas Eve Eve.

Prayer: Prepare in me the heart of one who is just getting started on this Christmas stuff. Prepare in me, O Lord, an attitude that is willing to take the joy and love of this season and continue it for a least a few more weeks…and then I’ll be ready to try a few more weeks. Amen.

A GREAT DAY
FOR WORSHIP
