Ecclesiological Etchings

Prayer for the Week:
I can see you fast approaching;
I have been looking for you;
  and dreaming about you
    for quite some time.
They call you Christmas Day –
They refer to you as a holiday –
They unpack you
  and decorate you
    and then, when done,
      return you to the closet.
The world loves Christmas
But does the world love you,
  O Lord of the Manger?
Do we love you,
  not in some
   what do I get out of the deal
      type of thinking,
  but with a love that is willing
    to give away
      whatever is necessary
      to follow you
      to really follow in your ways:
        to rid the world
          of greed and gluttony;
        to transform religions
          of their self-righteousness;
        to love and fully welcome
          those the world has cast away?
We have been waiting,
  patiently waiting,
    for Christmas,
  but have we been waiting for you,
    Christ, the Newborn King.
Make within us room
  for your fullness to dwell.
Amen.
