Scripture: Galatians 6:9 Let’s not get tired of doing good, because in time we’ll have a harvest if we don’t give up. Thought for the Day: Last night, the final song during the Super Bowl Halftime Show was from Coldplay, entitled Up&Up. I had never heard the song before, but I loved its positive and hopeful tone. It concludes with the simple words: Don’t ever give up Don’t
Scripture: Acts 10:28 Peter said to them: “You are well aware that it is against our law for a Jew to associate with or visit a Gentile. But God has shown me that I should not call anyone impure or unclean…” Thought for the Day: On this day, we remember the Mud March of 1907. This was a march for women’s suffrage that took place along the wet
Scripture: Zechariah 8:16 These are the things you should do: Speak the truth to each other; make truthful, just, and peaceable decisions within your gates. Thought for the Day: Dietrich Bonhoeffer once wrote, “Silence in the face of evil is itself evil: God will not hold us guiltless. Not to speak is to speak. Not to act is to act.” I find those words to be the source
Scripture: Mark 9:2-3 Six days later, Jesus took with him Peter and James and John, and led them up a high mountain apart, by themselves. And he was transfigured before them, and his clothes became dazzling white, such as no one on earth could bleach them. Thought for the Day: Significant things happen when people visit the mountain top. Three disciples joined Jesus on a journey to the
Scripture: 1st Timothy 4:13-15 Until I arrive, give attention to the public reading of scripture, to exhorting, to teaching. Do not neglect the gift that is in you, which was given to you through prophecy with the laying on of hands by the council of elders. Put these things into practice, devote yourself to them, so that all may see your progress. Thought for the Day: When you
Scripture: Proverbs 25:21 The desires of the lazy will kill them, because their hands refuse to do anything. Thought for the Day: The King James Version uses the word slothful instead of lazy. I’m not too sure which word is more dramatic in its ability to make the point, but the word slothful tends to indicate more of an unchanging characteristic. A sloth is not going to suddenly
Scripture: Psalm 42:1-2 (CEB) Just like a deer that craves streams of water, my whole being craves you, God. My whole being thirsts for God, for the living God. When will I come and see God’s face? Thought for the Day: Richard Rohr wrote, “Religion is one of the safest places to hide from God.” Rohr appears to hit a home run with these words. Modern day Christianity
Scriptures: Exodus 20:8 Remember the Sabbath day and treat it as holy. Thought for the Day: Yesterday morning, I sat in my home church sanctuary (First Christian Church of Lincoln, NE) as I was visiting my mom to celebrate her 85th birthday. A few minutes before worship, I pulled up the LiveStream of Cypress Creek’s service and was able to watch a few minutes, but I thought it
Scripture: John 15:13 No one has greater love than to give up one’s life for one’s friends. Thought for the Day: The story is a few days old, but most of you probably heard about a school principal who pushed children from the path of a school bus. In her choice to save others, she lost her own life. Just rereading the article, I find myself very emotional.
Scripture: Isaiah 25:9 It will be said on that day, Lo, this is our God; we have waited for him, so that he might save us. This is the Lord for whom we have waited; let us be glad and rejoice in his salvation. Thought for the Day: As we continue through this 25th chapter of Isaiah, I am struck by seven rather simple words: It will be
