Ecclesiological Etchings

Scripture: 1st Corinthians 15:12-14
Now if Christ is proclaimed as raised from the dead, how can some of you say there is no resurrection of the dead? If there is no resurrection of the dead, then Christ has not been raised; and if Christ has not been raised, then our proclamation has been in vain and your faith has been in vain.

Thought for the Day: There appears to have been some questions in Corinth when it came to the resurrection of Jesus. For Paul, this question was significant as it shattered the foundation on which everything else was built. Hope stands on the resurrection, and this is not just a conviction about us going to heaven when we die. It is a belief that the ways of Jesus cannot and will not be thwarted by the world. And remember, Paul was preaching to folks who were dismissed by the different religions of the day; they were under attack by the Romans; they had internal conflicts as people forgot who they were as followers of Jesus. Resurrection is a reminder that no matter what today looks like, it is only Friday…and Sunday still remains in our future.

Prayer: Holy One of Creation, we seek the Good News of your resurrection; we seek to know and experience your power of rebirth and new life that you are bringing to moments of hopelessness and despair. Give us spirits that perceive your resurrection even when it feels as if we are in the tomb. Amen.
