Scripture: Proverbs 14:4
When there are no oxen, the stall is clean, but when there is a strong bull, there is abundant produce.
Thought for the Day: I must confess how much I like this Proverb. We can have a perfectly clean life assuming we don’t include anyone else or bring in anything that is really necessary for life. I like what the author, Brené Brown, writes about going to school to become a Social Worker and what she learned:
Social work is all about leaning into the discomfort of ambiguity and uncertainty, and holding open an empathetic space so people can find their own way. In a word — messy.
Life is messy, and a relationship with God does not remove the bull from the stall. It is still messy, yet we are provided tools and encouragement, insight and empowerment by means of the One who loves us. Don’t try to pursue the mess-free life. If you actually come close to achieving it, I’m pretty sure you won’t be very happy.
Prayer: Show me, O Merciful God, the beauty and joy found in the day-to-day messiness of my life. Your presence and gifts are there not in spite of the mess, but even in the mess. Amen.
