Scripture: Matthew 10:42
I assure you that everybody who gives even a cup of cold water to these little ones because they are my disciples will certainly be rewarded.
Thought for the Day: In chapter 10, Jesus commissions his disciples to go on a missionary experience, and he recognizes the danger involved. In vs. 16, he says, “I am sending you like sheep among wolves.” Though Jesus speaks harshly during this chapter, he also speaks positively about those who do the simplest of tasks on behalf of the commissioned disciples. Even a cup of cold water is a gift that Jesus celebrates. Too often we honor the big gifts – whether those are financially large or big in regard to their quantitative nature or gifts that are more publicly noticed, yet Jesus does not wish for us to dismiss the little things like a simple glass of water. For a people who traveled in the desert, a simple glass of water could make the difference between life and death. Don’t dismiss your own gift as it appears small or insignificant. It just might be the difference between life and death for another human being.
Prayer: Whatever I have, O God of the Universe, I offer it for your Kingdom work. It may not appear as impressive as others, but if you can use it, I relinquish it to the will of your Spirit. Amen.
