Scripture: 1st John 2:5
…whoever obeys his (Jesus Christ the righteous) word, truly in this person the love of God has reached perfection. By this we may be sure that we are in him…
Thought for the Day: Most folks get a little nervous around the word perfection. Most of us would have moments when we might use words like good or even great to describe our attempts at obeying Jesus, but to suggest perfection feels a bit arrogant. Yet 1st John suggests that in those moments when we obey the word of Jesus – the word that speaks of loving God and loving neighbor, the word that speaks about making disciples, the word that speaks of taking up the cross – in those moments, the perfect love of Jesus is put on display for others to see and experience. The passage says that the love of God has reached perfection in this person, but it is still the love of God that is perfect.
Prayer: The gift of your love, O Lord, has been given with such generosity. Allow for my sharing to reveal for others your perfect love. Amen.
