Scripture: Psalm 96:11
Let the heavens be glad, and let the earth rejoice; let the sea roar, and all that fills it;
Thought for the Day: I reference Psalm 96 yesterday, but as I continued to read through the entire Psalm, I found these words. It made me wonder what it is that makes the heavens glad and the earth rejoice. The author has spoken about the Lord judging with righteousness, and if I understand the Hebrew word that we translate as righteousness, it describes equity and fairness. Righteousness is not some moral snobiness, though that is the way many hear the word. It is both the measuring stick by which we are judged and the expectation that God has for us. To live our lives (individually and corporately) in a spirit of righteousness – seeking equity and fairness – makes the heavens glad and the earth rejoice.
Prayer: May my life bring a joyful smile to the heavens! Guide me, O Maker of Heaven and Earth, so that I may reveal your right-like living. Amen.
