Ecclesiological Etchings

Scripture: James 1:19 (the Message)
Post this at all the intersections, dear friends: Lead with your ears, follow up with your tongue, and let anger straggle along in the rear.

Thought for the Day: A few days ago, I referenced the translation of the Bible called the Message. Once again, I love its take on a phrase. “Lead with your ears…” Those words are better than simply saying, “Listen…” How often have we said to someone, “I’m listening,” but in fact we were looking at them, nodding with a so-called acknowledgement, and really planning something else all together. The world needs people who will lead with their ears – those who will pay attention to what is being said with the words, but also the inflection and tenor of the voice. So much could be heard if only we lead with our ears.

Prayer: Guide my listening, O God. Encourage me so that I might be one who will lead with my ears that others might feel understood and appreciated. Amen.
