Scripture: Galatians 1:1-2
Paul an apostle—sent neither by human commission nor from human authorities, but through Jesus Christ and God the Father, who raised him from the dead–and all the members of God’s family who are with me, To the churches of Galatia:
Thought for the Day: This officially begins a month (or almost a month) in which we look at Paul’s letter to the Galatians. In his opening verse, he introduces himself as an apostle. The word literally means ‘one who is sent.’ To declare oneself as sent assumes that there was someone who did the sending, and for Paul, that is both Jesus and God. He received a divine commission, and he was going to act upon it. How many of us have that kind of confidence in who we are and what God is doing with us? At times, the Apostle Paul can get a little overly confident, but the church today seems to be filled with those who have no confidence. We have hunkered down and chosen to attend worship where we talk about those who were apostles …and then we ponder why the church as a whole is in decline. Maybe we need a few more folks who feel sent.
Prayer: Provide me, O God, the needed confidence to live your grace somewhere beyond my current situation. Allow me to hear your invitation to go. Amen.
