Scripture: 2nd Thessalonians 3:13
Brothers and sisters, don’t get discouraged in doing what is right.
Thought for the Day: All I can say is, “Preach it!” Those are words the followers of Jesus need to hear every morning and every night because the work of Kingdom-building can be very discouraging. Discouragement often happens when we focus entirely on short term successes and believe that everything is dependent upon our personal accomplishments. How many people died in the great causes throughout history without every seeing any real movement toward the goal? How many people became martyrs for Jesus, but died feeling like failures because nothing had yet changed? Could it be that faithfulness is success in the eyes of God even when no measurable change has occurred? Let us be bold and even a little edgy; let us demonstrate our deepest convictions in how we live our lives; let us love deeply and forgive recklessly. At the end of two weeks of doing such things we probably should not expect a dramatic change in world events, but I’m pretty sure there will be someone out there whose life is a bit better because we did what we did. Those who are blessed because of how you lived your life may not even know your name, but I’m pretty sure they are thankful that you did not get discouraged and give up. And remember, your act of faithfulness might just be the tipping point the world has been needing.
Prayer: Help me, Gracious God, to keep on keeping on. Let my daily living bring glory to you even when it feels as if we are nowhere near a tipping point. Amen.
