Scripture: Psalm 36:4-7
They plot evil even while resting in bed! They commit themselves to a path that is no good. They don’t reject what is evil. But your loyal love, LORD, extends to the skies; your faithfulness reaches the clouds. Your righteousness is like the strongest mountains; your justice is like the deepest sea. LORD, you save both humans and animals. Your faithful love is priceless, God! Humanity finds refuge in the shadow of your wings.
Thought for the Day: What does it mean for the church to faithful. In Nazi Germany, most Christians and most churches supported Hitler and the Nazi Party, but there were some who refused. They called themselves the Confessing Church. Martin Niemoller, one of those involved in the Confessing Church, published a book of sermons called Christus ist mein Fuhrer. Even if you don’t read German, you can probably translate the title: Christ is my Fuhrer (leader). The use of the word Fuhrer was not by accident. Niemoller intended to make a statement, to challenge the churches that had pledged loyalty to the ways of the Nazi Party, and to call people to repentance. To say that Christ was his Fuhrer was also to say that Adolf Hitler was not. The book got Niemoller seven years in Dachau. Words are powerful, and they can point to the integrity and faithfulness of an individual. As the author of the Psalm reminds us, God is always faithful. It is when we no longer trust the faithfulness of God that we tend to get ourselves into trouble.
Prayer: By your faithfulness, Lord, continue to inspire our faithfulness. Amen.
