Scripture: Psalm 48:1-3
In the city belonging to our God, the LORD is great and so worthy of praise! His holy mountain is a beautiful summit, the joy of the whole world. Mount Zion, in the far north, is the city of the great king. God is in its fortifications, revealing himself as a place of safety.
Thought for the Day: Do you have a place that is sacred to you? Do you have a place that feels safe and full of the divine presence? It is my hope that every human being has such a place, but sadly it is probably more of a naive wish than a true hope. Whether it is war, poverty, racism or illness, there are so many forces that can hinder a person’s vision of God’s beautiful summit…whether it is a real summit or not. I’ve known people who have claimed a beautiful stream or some place in nature as their sacred summit. Others have referenced something like a rocking chair on the back patio or a walk around the block at sunset. God is shaping and forming such places in our lives, but God also understands how forces beyond our control are attempting to block our awareness. Let’s be thankful that God is patient, persistent and powerful.
Prayer: As the temple was a symbol of your presence, O Lord, I pray that I shall always find time and space in my life were I can step into a place that feels safe and full of your presence. Amen.
