Ecclesiological Etchings

Scripture: 2nd Corinthians 8:1-2
Brothers and sisters, we want to let you know about the grace of God that was given to the churches of Macedonia. While they were being tested by many problems, their extra amount of happiness and their extreme poverty resulted in a surplus of rich generosity.

Thought for the Day: Where have you seen the generosity of God manifesting itself in human beings? At Cypress Creek Christian Church, we claim a God who first loved us. We desire to introduce people to such a God and encourage them to live as a reflection of the beauty that was best seen in Jesus. Inviting people to go beyond a simple belief in such a God is one of the great challenges of today’s Christianity. To speak of a generous God is one thing, but to actually begin the journey of generosity in one’s life is something very different. Cypress Creek Christian Church has always put on display the generosity of God, but since the flood, our journey of generosity has taken a turn. People have continued to be amazingly generous, but I want to suggest that none of us know for sure exactly where this new turn on the journey is going to take us. At the same time, paraphrasing Pauls’ words, let us know about the grace of God that has been given to the church along Cypress Creek. While it has been tested by some problems, there remains an extra amount of happiness among the people. And even where there appears to be scarcity, a surplus of generosity continues to spring forth. I believe this to be true!

Prayer: You put on display in Jesus the generosity of your love, O Lord, and I pray for the strength of your Spirit so that such generosity might make an appearance in me at least now and then. Amen.
