Scripture: Romans 6:5
If we were united together in a death like his, we will also be united together in a resurrection like his.
Thought for the Day: So often this passage is understood as a description of being united with Jesus in an eternal resurrection beyond this life, but for Paul, he is talking about a transformation of an individual in this life. He is calling upon those who follow Jesus to seek a true and dramatic change within their lives, a transformation that requires a death of self and a rebirth into the Jesus-life. I don’t have a lot of answers as we face another mass shooting in our nation, but I would suggest that we desperately need a Spirit-filled and Jesus-led transformation at every level of our society. It probably won’t come from any one thing, but those of us who have committed to Jesus and have died and risen in the waters of baptism, must be ready to be full participates in the work that lies ahead.
Prayer: Continue to transform my life, O Spirit of the Baptismal Waters, so I might be an instrument of your transformation in my sphere of influence and beyond. Amen.
