Scripture: Matthew 2:1-2
In the time of King Herod, after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea, wise men from the East came to Jerusalem, asking, “Where is the child who has been born king of the Jews? For we observed his star at its rising, and have come to pay him homage.”
Thought for the Day: One of the great pastors and preachers within our denomination was C. William Nichols who died a few years back. In one of his books, he wrote about the difficulty the Magi must have experienced along the journey, and how we know similar difficulties in our lives. Rev. Nichols wrote, “How easy life would be if only some brilliant star constantly showed us the right path! Unfortunately, most of our discipleship takes place not when we can see the star, but when we can’t, when despite our discouragement or spiritual weariness we must continue to follow the remembered stars of those times of clear days when we could see forever.”
Prayer: Give me strength of spirit, Gracious God, so the words, “I give up,” are not a part of my vocabulary. Amen.
