Scripture: Ephesians 2:17-18 (the Message)
Christ came and preached peace to you outsiders and peace to us insiders. He treated us as equals, and so made us equals. Through him we both share the same Spirit and have equal access to the Father.
Thought for the Day: It was on this date in 1966 that the first African American was appointed to serve in a Cabinet-level position — appointed as the Secretary of Housing and Urban Development. His name was Robert Weaver, and he had served in numerous positions within the United States government, though most of them were in the Black Cabinet, an unofficial group that was started under Roosevelt. As we begin this week in which we look to the memory of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., there is much for which we can be thankful. Our nation has seen significant change for the better when it comes to equality, but there are plenty of situations where it remains a work in progress. May the prayers and ongoing work of Christians help to create respect for every human being.
Prayer: There is no bigotry in your kingdom, O Creator of us all, and I pray that we will continue to strive toward the goal of making things on earth as they are in heaven. Amen.
