Scripture: Isaiah 56:5-7
I will give, in my house and within my walls, a monument and a name better than sons and daughters; I will give them an everlasting name that shall not be cut off. And the foreigners who join themselves to the Lord, to minister to him, to love the name of the Lord, and to be his servants, all who keep the sabbath, and do not profane it, and hold fast my covenant— these I will bring to my holy mountain, and make them joyful in my house of prayer; their burnt offerings and their sacrifices will be accepted on my altar; for my house shall be called a house of prayer for all peoples.
Thought for the Day: Why didn’t anyone tell me that I pray with my hands. I’ve always known that I talk with my hands and preach with my hands, but in watching the worship video from yesterday – specifically the baptisms at 9:30 – my hands were making all kinds of motions and gestures during the prayer. Since most everyone’s eyes were closed, I guess I was trying to make sure God was able to clearly understand my point. With all seriousness, I don’t think it is a problem…maybe a little goofy, but not overtly troublesome. I’d like to think its some joy spilling out, the same thing felt by those who heard Isaiah’s words. I love the image of making the foreigners (outsiders) “joyful in my house of prayer.” Those who have been rejected and made to feel worthless are accepted and included among God’s people. This is our message at Cypress Creek Christian Church, and the joy this message produces should be seen among our community through animated prayers and songs and proclamation.
Prayer: Thank you, Lord, for giving us all an everlasting name the shall not be cut off. This brings joy to our hearts. Amen.
