Scripture: Acts 8:36
As they were going along the road, they came to some water; and the eunuch said Philip, “Look, here is water! What is to prevent me from being baptized?”
Thought for the Day: Nothing! There should be no other answer when someone echoes the query posed by the Ethiopian Eunuch. Baptism is an amazing and joy-filled experience, but at the end of the day, it is a response to God’s gracious invitation. We should not question whether or not the invitation was genuinely received or properly heard. It isn’t our job to point out attributes that might make the individual somehow unworthy of the baptismal waters. At the end of the day, no one is ever going to be in some perfect state of mind to receive baptism. Everyone who enters those waters remains a work in progress. Baptism is the entry point into the journey of faith – and the entry point into the faith community that commits to walking alongside one another in that journey.
Every year, Cypress Creek Christian Church offers a Mentoring Program for young people considering baptism. We offer baptism by immersion (dunking method) by profession of faith. We usually start talking to children in the 4th or 5th grade in regard to their interest. Mike Price, a member of our congregation, oversees this important program.
There will be an informational meeting for parents on Sunday Jan. 25th at 10:45 AM and again at 12:15 AM, and again on Wednesday, Jan 28th at 6:15 PM. They will meet in room 205 of the Youth Building. Please prayerfully consider who you might encourage or invite to begin the incredible journey of faith that starts in the waters of baptism.
Prayer: Thank you, Lord, for the incredible symbol of baptism. May there be many who enter those waters… many who find a new journey of faithfulness. Amen.
