Scripture: Acts 8:35-36
Then Philip began to speak, and starting with this scripture, he proclaimed to him the good news about Jesus. As they were going along the road, they came to some water; and the eunuch said, “Look, here is water! What is to prevent me from being baptized?”

Thought for the Day: There is something within the “good news about Jesus” that can move a person to action.  In fact, there appears throughout scripture a desire to respond in a tangible way to the good news about Jesus.  The words good news are in fact just one word in the original Greek of the New Testament — euaggelizo.  It is the – eu (good) and – angello (announce).  The second half of the word, angello, may look a bit familiar.  It is where we get our word angel, a divine messenger.  It’s almost as if it implies that this good news is not of us, but a gift.  We are not the origin of the good news, but we are its destination.

What does the life of Jesus tell you about the good news of Jesus?  Can you describe a specific moment in life when you encountered the good news, and it truly was good news?  Have you ever taken the opportunity to tell someone else about that moment?  If so, what happened?  If not, why?

Prayer: O Mighty God, you are the source and inspiration of that which is truly good news.  Allow it to touch my broken and selfish ways with the hope-filled message that can heal my life and inspire me to touch the lives of others.  Amen.
