Scripture: Matthew 13:24
Jesus put before them another parable: “The kingdom of heaven may be compared to someone who sowed good seed in his field…
Thought for the Day: In 1843, a Mennonite immigrant from Russia came to America, and settled in Halstead, Kansas. Among his meager belongings, he carried a pocket full of wheat seeds. He planted those seeds, and they produced a very nice crop that first year. The following year, he shared some of the seed with a neighbor. The strain of wheat is now called Turkey Red, and about a half billion bushels of wheat each year can trace its ancestry to that one pocket full of seeds brought to Kansas by a Russian immigrant. What a joy it is to think that the few seeds of grace, hope and justice that we plant today could be blessing thousands of people a century from now.
It’s interesting how a story told by Jesus can become a lens through which we see historic events differently. Could it be possible that Jesus intended his stories to do so? Have you ever had an occasion in your life when you have used a parable of Jesus to reinterpret a current happening? It’s almost as if Jesus comes alive in the present moment.
Prayer: Lord, help me to relinquish any hesitation I might have when it comes to sharing the gifts I have in my possession. Amen.
